About splitting PDF files
Everything you need to know about separating and extracting pages from a PDF
Load a PDF file, choose the split mode (range, every N pages, or individual page), and save the resulting PDFs in a ZIP file. All processing happens in your browser and your files never leave your device.
Step-by-step process:
- Click the selection area or drag a PDF file onto it
- Choose the split mode and configure the options
- Click 'Split PDF' and wait for processing to complete
- Save the ZIP file with all the resulting PDFs
Technical specifications:
- • Page range: Extract segments like '1-3, 5, 7-10' as separate documents
- • Every N pages: Split the document into equal parts of N pages
- • Individual page: Generate an independent PDF for each page
- • Processing: 100% in the browser using pdf-lib, files never uploaded
- • Output: ZIP with multiple PDFs, or single PDF if only one part results
Splitting PDFs in the browser offers unique advantages over desktop software and online services. Your files stay on your device, processing is instant, and there are no subscriptions or file limits.

PDFSuite offers three split modes to cover all use cases:
Every N pages
- • Splits the document into equal parts
- • Configure the number of pages per part (minimum 1)
- • The last part may have fewer pages if the total is not divisible
- • Perfect for splitting long documents into manageable parts
→ Best for: Splitting presentations, catalogs or long reports
Page range
- • Specify exact pages: '5' extracts only page 5
- • Define ranges: '1-3' extracts pages 1, 2 and 3 into one PDF
- • Combine both: '1-3, 5, 8-10' generates 3 separate PDFs
- • Ideal for extracting chapters, sections or specific pages
→ Best for: Extracting contracts, forms or sections from a report
Each individual page
- • Generates a separate PDF for each page of the document
- • Files are named automatically: page_001.pdf, page_002.pdf...
- • All PDFs are downloaded in a single ZIP file
- • Useful when you need to handle pages independently
→ Best for: Separating invoices, receipts or pages for individual archiving
Is quality lost when splitting a PDF?
No. PDFSuite uses pdf-lib to copy the exact pages from the original document without recompressing or re-encoding the content. The result is identical in quality to the original PDF.
Is there a page or file size limit?
There are no artificial limits. You can split PDFs of any size with any number of pages. The only limit is your browser's available memory.
Does the split PDF keep bookmarks and hyperlinks?
Internal hyperlinks may stop working if the destination ends up in a different part. External links to websites are preserved. Bookmarks from the original document are not transferred to the parts.
Are my files safe?
Yes. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your PDFs are never uploaded to any server. Once you close the page, all data is cleared from memory.
Why are the results downloaded in a ZIP file?
When the result is multiple PDFs, the ZIP makes it easy to download them all at once with a single click. If the result is a single PDF, it downloads directly without a ZIP.
Can I split password-protected PDFs?
No, password-protected PDFs cannot be processed directly. You will need to remove the password protection first using the original software that created them.
